Bahrain Air's first aircraft received a royal welcome when it arrived at the Bahrain International Airport yesterday. Bahrain Air receives first aircraft, inaugural flight to Dubai today.

The Kingdom’s second national carrier, Bahrain Air, took delivery of the first A-320 aircraft yesterday on the eve of its debut flight to Dubai.

The airline’s chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, who received the aircraft at the Bahrain International Airport, said Bahrain Air would add a new dimension to the tourism sector by offering 14 destinations across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) within three months. The first flight would take off for Dubai today.

Among those present on the occasion were the airline’s managing director Ibrahim Al Hamer, Undersecretary of Civil Aviation Affairs Captain Abdulrahman Al Gaoud, Director General of Customs, Ports and Free Zones, Shaikh Duaij and other top ranking officials.

Shaikh Mohammed said Bahrain Air would span its network to 12 destinations operating three aircraft while two more destinations would be added by April.

He said that the airline would also open new avenues of employment for Bahrainis with total number of staff reaching 350 in two years time out of which 80 per cent would be Bahrainis. Bahrain Air, which is the first privately-owned premium low-priced carrier (LPC), with a paid-up capital of BD8 million and an authorised capital of BD10 million, is confident of creating its own market rather than sharing the existing market with Gulf Air.
